Seeds of Destruction and the Void

Seeds of Destruction, released in 2008, opens at the end of everything. Norrath is in pieces, Ro is collapsing, and one mad god sits on a fragment of rock tending a seedling. The expansion’s story runs backward from there, into the history that Discord is trying to unmake.

A flaw in the timeweave

It began in the Plane of Time. When adventurers tried to free Zebuxoruk from stasis, Druzzil Ro rewove the timeweave to stop him escaping. The rethreading left a small weakness in the flow of time, and for years nobody noticed it.

The god behind Mata Muram

In the Gates of Discord and Omens of War eras, Discord poured into Norrath and its overlord Mata Muram was driven back. His armies were only part of Discord’s strength, and all of them served a dark god of the discordant pantheon. That god was furious at the failure and curious about the power that had caused it.

Studying Norrath, he found Druzzil Ro’s weak spot, which gave him limited access to Norrath’s history. He sent agents to key moments to cripple Norrath’s development and make his armies’ victory easy. The Plane of Time noticed at once, and rifts began to open.

The Void

One rift shows the result. Norrath has shattered into millions of shards drifting around a darkening Ro, which is shrinking toward a black hole and throwing off solar flares. The pantheon died with the world, leaving only relics adrift in space. Time portals among the shards lead to the Plane of Time, Bloody Kithicor, the Field of Scale, Oceangreen, the Bloodfields, the invasion of the Plane of Earth, and Discord itself.

The only living thing is Zebuxoruk, torn from the flow of time by the elder gods, tending a single seedling with what little divine power he has left. He is certainly insane, but only he can point adventurers at the moments Discord has corrupted. Every moment they save repairs a little of the Void.

Oceangreen

The first moment is the birth of Qeynos. After the Combine Empire fell, humans settled the Oceangreen Hills, and a temple Bertoxxulous helped carve with his own power spread plague through the land. The young Antonius Bayle led hunters into the hills against the plague cult, the druids of Karana cleansed the taint, and he founded Qeynos on the bay. In the rift Discord feeds the plague and corrupts the Sabertooth gnolls of Blackburrow, and Bayle’s village needs defending.

Bloody Kithicor and the Field of Scale

The second moment is the Battle of Bloody Kithicor, where Discord’s agents try to change the fates of Firiona Vie and Lanys T’Vyl. The third is the war between the iksar and the Ring of Scale, where a Discord enchanter offers Emperor Ganak a dragonbane shield and teaches Warmaster Kurn’s necromancers to enchant weapons against dragons, hoping to make the iksar Discord’s shock troops.

The invasion of Earth

The last moment is the Rallosian assault on the Plane of Earth. In history Murdunk’s first invasion failed, because a slain member of the Rathe Council was simply replaced. Tallon and Vallon’s second assault dragged the council to Norrath, where one was executed and the Rathe Mountains rose where it fell. The curse that followed froze the giants’ homeland and diminished every child of Zek.

Discord wants the Rallosians to win this time and destroy all thirteen of the Rathe, which would hand Rallos Zek the plane’s power and tip the pantheon his way for good. In the Korascian Warrens, where Discordians blew open the plane’s crystal core, and in the Rathe Council Chamber, adventurers fight to keep the old ending.

Legacy

Seeds of Destruction turned EverQuest’s own history into its content, sending players back to battles they had only read about. Read it with Zebuxoruk, Mata Muram and Discord, the Battle of Bloody Kithicor, Jaled Dar and the Field of Bone, Antonius Bayle and Qeynos, and the War for the Plane of Earth.
